7. Housekeeping
Keeping spaces clean, tidy and organised is a matter of respect for other users of the Hayman Theatre. It is also integral to health and safety, as poor housekeeping can easily lead to accidents or incidents. Good housekeeping in the theatre includes the following points:
- Sweep the stage before and after each use. You may need to mop or vacuum depending on the set or the activity.
- All rubbish should be placed in a bin.
- Props should be stored in the space in your shows assigned area until its your show week, at that time you can transfer it to the crossover area.
- Set pieces need to be stored in a manner that doesn’t obstruct walkways, ramps or fire fighting equipment, inconvenience others or pose a danger of falling. There must always be a clear passageway of at least one metre.
Never obstruct fire extinguishers or fire hoses. Usually there is a “keep clear” area marked on the floor.
Never obstruct emergency exits or prop open fire doors. These doors must remain closed. If your show requires these doors to be propped open, a special risk assessment must be carried out and receive approval from a relevant Academic.
