Au - Automation

Space

Automation allows you to make keyframe changes in real time as you play through your project.

This is how you create your final mix.

Expand out your track so you can see the Read and Show Envelopes menu functions

Select the Show Envelopes to select the type of automation you want to do:

Volume

Mute

Pan

Track EQ

By default, automation is set to Read.

Read - any changes made to the levels (or panning etc.) will be made globally to the entire track. No keyframes are added.

Write - will record all changes made to the levels when playing using the fader (on the track, in the mix panel, or on the Mackie mixer). Keyframes are added in real time to the automation track.

Latch - will only start recording when you touch your fader, but will continue to record over everything after, whilst playing.

Touch - only changes made using the fader will overwrite, when the fader is not touched the automation will remain as it was prior.

We now have a few additional options available to us at the bottom of the track:

  • Lock keyframes (so not to accidentally overwrite your magic)
  • Erase all keyframes (because you want to re-do the magic)
  • Move to next or previous keyframe, plus add or remove keyframe
