It cannot be stressed enough how important media management is to the success of a post production workflow - this all starts with efficient Datawrangling - the process of copying your camera and audio acquisition cards onto a server, in the case of Curtin, it is the Isilon (FTV) server.

Insert the media card into the card reader or the back or front of the iMac

Locate the media card on your desktop, and double click it to open it up (this may look different depending on what recording device/camera you have filmed with)

Copy the entire contents of that card into a folder created (by you) on the server

Info

Can’t find video files on the SD card? Maybe this will help.

It is important that each card has it’s own, easily identifiable folder inside the Media folder

Create a folder for each card

This is an example of good media management; sequentially numbered folders with a brief description of its primary contents. You can use any labeling system you like BUT be consistent!

The 1st year camera (Sony Z150) will record all its media inside a root directory called private, copy this folder to the server

If you have recorded on a dual record system (2nd and 3rd year units) you will place both camera (RAW_01) and audio (SND_001) records inside their corresponding folders. This number needs to be cumulative

If you have multiple media cards per shoot day and/or have recorded audio separately, see the Advanced Data Wrangling section.

NOTE: If you are importing media from a smart device (like an iPhone) go to this step
