Setup of Audio Mixer on TV Studio floor for 'Live' audio.

For this we use the 16 channel Mackie analogue audio mixing desk that allows the audio sources to be ‘routed’ to the 2 Studio Fold back ‘wedge’ speakers for the musicians, ie singers.

It also allows each Microphone or Audio source to be sent to the TV Control Room on separate channels for recording.

Using the ‘Patch Cables’ to XLR, plug in the 6.5mm Plug into each of the DIRECT OUT starting from 1 to 4..

This allows each audio source from each MIC IN to be then SENT to the Yamaha Audio Mixer within the Control Room through the Wall Box.

‘Patch Cable’ for Wall Box

Each Mic is plugged into the MIC 1 or MIC 2 etc as shown in the bottom of this picture -as shown in picture.

The diagram to the Left shows the Microphones connected to MIC 1 to MIC 4. In Black

The Blue Lines show the DIRECT OUT from the Mixer to the Wall Box.

The Red Lines show the AUX SEND output from the Mixer to route the Audio signal to the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) Unit for adding Reverb or added effects to Singers Microphone. This is to enhance the vocals added to the Fold back Wedge Speaker only.

For Production Recording, the Audio Effect will need to be added separately through the Studio Yamaha CL3 Audio Mixer, as the DSP is only for Foldback

The Audio source for Foldback is first plugged into the AUX SEND 1 of the Mixer to the Analogue INPUT Left of the DSP. Repeat for AUX SEND 2 into Analogue INPUT Right of DSP.

The output of the DSP is then patched to the Fold back Speaker, for this, a patch cable is used from the DSP OUT L for Speaker 1 and into DSP OUT R for Speaker 2

The AUX Sends for each Channel Strip on the Mixer takes the audio source from each Input and routes them to AUX1 OUT or AUX2 OUT for each Speaker. See Diagram.

NOTE; the PRE Fader button on each Channel strip for AUX needs to be in the Up position to make it into POST Fader. This way the amount of audio level to the Fold back speakers are determined by the Channel Fader and where its positioned in its ‘travel’.

For audio to get to the Fold Back speakers the AUX SEND Masters on the Mackie mixer need to be at Unity.
