AE - Video Noise Reduction

Every now and then we need to shoot in a low light situations or maybe we just accidentally put the ISO too high and now our footage is a bit noisy. Here’s how to improve it using Remove Grain feature in After Effects.

Drag your video file onto the timeline.

In the Effects & Presets panel, look up Remove Grain effect and drag it on top of your clip.

In the Effects Control panel Remove Grain effect will appear.

A preview box will appear on the screen, this way you can compare before and after the effect in use.

You can also move the preview box around by holding and dragging around the centre point, as well as changing its size from the settings panel.

To achieve best result, you can play around with the settings - main ones to adjust would be Noise Reduction Settings and Fine Tuning, other settings can also be useful.

Each clip might require different adjustments.

Be careful with the settings as putting higher values might lead to blurry and artificial results.

To be able to see the full preview (not just the box) change the Viewing Mode from Preview to Final Output.

This will make sure the effect is applied to the whole footage.
