Light - Arri Sun 1200 HMI
The Arri Sun 1200 HMI is the store’s most powerful light, it is roughly the equivelant to 3 Aputure LS C120D II LED lights. It’s therefore only for lighting large spaces such as creating moonlight in a forest. HMI is a type of globe that outputs a 6000K CCT (Colour Temperature). HMI technology was designed and created specifically for film production. It gives a very high quality, even and clean light output. The downside to HMI technology is the need for more complex and bulky electronics to power this light safely. There is a seperate ballast for this light that can dim the 1200 HMI from roughly 70-100%. There is also a seperate lens case that will give the light different means of projection. This light can only be powered by AC mains power.
A compliance workshop MUST be undertaken by at least 3 students in your group to be able to use this light. This is a very advanced, heavy and bulky light. This light also emits UV radiation so care must be taken when operating with and around this light.
The 1200 HMI is available to 2nd and 3rd year Screen Arts units.
