MCASI Film Project Proposal Process - Overview
When planning a screen production or other creative production activity (“project”), students are required to complete the online MCASI Film Project Proposal process prior to commencing any production activities.
The MCASI Film Project Proposal is an online process with two components:
Concept Proposal and
Risk Assessment.
A separate MCASI Film Project Proposal is required for every project.
Overview of Concept Proposal and Risk Assessment Process
The Concept Proposal should include all details of your project, including the proposed concept, location, and talent. The Concept Proposal is an online form and students can seek guidance to complete it from a Pre-Production Support Specialist.
Based on the complexity of the proposed concept, risk activity, talent and locations, the Tutor/Supervising Academic will determine if the project is ‘low risk’ or ‘NOT low risk’.
Projects assessed and approved as a ‘low risk’ project by a Tutor/Supervising Academic can book equipment, and work on the project can commence.
Projects assessed as a ‘NOT low risk’ project by a Tutor/Supervising Academic will require an approved Risk Assessment before being able to collect equipment and start work on the project.
The Risk Assessment is required to ensure students consider all the risks associated with the activities, talent and locations connected to their project
Students with a ‘NOT low risk’ project should meet with a Pre-Production Support Specialist for help to identify, manage, and minimise all relevant risks associated with their project.
The Pre-Production Support Specialist will assist the students by:

Once satisfied that the project’s risks are minimised, the Pre-Production Support Specialist will endorse the Risk Assessment. At this point students may book equipment for the project with a printout of the endorsed Risk Assessment and completed Equipment Booking form.
When the Pre-Production Support Specialist endorses a Risk Assessment, it is automatically sent to the student’s Tutor/Supervising Academic for review.
If your Tutor/Supervising Academic is absent from work, an academic delegate will be nominated to approve student projects while they are away.
Once the Risk Assessment is approved by the Tutor/Supervising Academic for a ‘NOT low risk’ project, students may collect equipment and work can commence on the project. During the production period, the requirements and outcomes of the approved Risk Assessment must be followed.
