DR - Effects

DaVinci has built in various effects that allow you to elevate your colour grade to another level. Here’s how to use them.

ADDING EFFECTS

Navigate to and click on the Effects panel.

This will open up a library of different effects. You can scroll through them and find once that will work for your film.

For easier navigation, you can look up specific effects by clicking on the magnifier icon and writing the name of the effect.

To use the effect, you need to drag and drop it onto a node within your Node panel.

Once you have the effect on the node, a settings panel will appear where you can adjust its values.

You can turn the effect ON and OFF by clicking the red switch.

To delete an effect click on the trash can icon.

USEFUL EFFECTS

When it comes to a colour grade, here’s a list of effects that are worth checking out:

  • Depth Map - allows to seperate the background from foreground without using masking, to be able to make seperate adjustments.

  • Face Refinement - lets you analyse the footage and create a face mask which makes adjusting skin tones easier.

  • Sharpen - sharpens or blurs the image.

  • Lens Flare - adds a fake lens flare which you can adjust and animate to add a cinematic feeling.

  • Glow - adds glow to your footage, compliments the lighting.

  • Noise Reduction - removes the noise from your footage (be careful with settings - less is more) [you can also use Motion Effects instead]
