PrP - Exporting - Checking Export Settings

Check Yo' Settings!

It is crucial to check your exported file to ensure the settings match the required delivery settings.

Below is a process on how to check your exported file, as well as an overview of the Curtin Screen Arts Delivery settings.

If there are particular file delivery requirements (i.e. for festivals/screenings), contact a Post-Production Specialist


Locate the file you have exported and want to check.

Right-click on the file.

Select 'Open with' and 'Quicktime Player'

Quicktime Player opens the file.



Press Cmd ⌘+ i to open the Inspector window

OR

In top menu bar, click 'Window' and from the drop-down select 'Show Movie Inspector'


The Inspector window contains different fields of information:

FILENAME

Source: The file path of where the file is saved

Format: Contains all the settings information that you require

Codec (in this case H.264), Frame Size (in this case 1920x1080)

Audio Codec (in this case AAC), Sample Rate (in this case 48000Hz), Audio Channel (in this case Stereo)

FPS: Frames Per Second/Frame Rate (in this case 25)

DataSize: Size of File

Data Rate: rate of data (bits) per second of exported media. The higher the bitrate, the higher the quality of the media.

Keep in mind that the maximum bit rate available tis decided by the maximum bitrate of the raw source media, meaning the quality of the files outputted from the camera used.

Check the specs in the Inspector window correlates with the Curtin FTV Delivery settings listed below.

These are the Curtin Screen Arts Assessment delivery settings:

Format:

AVC Coding, 1920 x 1080

AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)


FPS: 25

Data Rate: 25 Mbit/s

Format:

Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ), 1920 x 1080

AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)


FPS: 25

Data Rate: 35 Mbit/s (or higher depending on quality of source material)
