In the Project window locate the bin to be used for media import.

Double click the folder icon.

The selected bin will now open as a floating window.

In the Project panel, select the Media Browser tab.

In the left column navigate to the ftv Isilon drive (this is the Isilon server).

Locate your Datawrangled media.

FOR ALL DATA WRANGLED MEDIA:

Select the 'ddmmyy_Title_DayXX' folder.

The media will now process and create a Clip list - depending on shooting format and amount of clips the processing may take some time.

Move the slider right to increase the size of the Clip Thumbnails

Scroll through a clip by hovering your mouse cursor over the thumbnail and moving the cursor from left to right

Play through the clip by selecting it and using the J-K-L key combination:

  • J - Play Backwards

  • K - Pause

  • L - Play Forwards

To import clips, ensure the required Bin is still open as a floating panel.

Select the clip(s) to be imported (hold down Cmd to click and select multiple clips).

Right-click on one of the selected clips > Import

Don't Need No Trash

ONLY IMPORT THE CLIPS YOU WANT FOR THE EDIT.

There's no point in importing clips that you won't be using. You'll be wasting your time, and cluttering up your bins.

The selected clip(s) will be imported into the selected Bin.

Rinse and repeat.

Re-name ALL clips - ensure you use a comprehensive naming convention that makes organising, sorting and locating clips easy.

Select the required clip in your Bin (double click the file if you need to view it in the Source panel).

Click on the current title to highlight it.

Type in new title.

Naming your clips...soooooo important!

A good naming convention is to start with a TLA (Two or Three Letter Acronym), ie. WS (Wide Shot), MWS (Medium Wide Shot) MCU (Medium Close Up), CU (Close Up), ECU (Extreme Close Up), INT (Interview), followed by a brief description of the shot. ie:

WS_Building208_GardenStudents

Notice the use of underscores instead of spaces and capital letters for each new word.

If you are using the Clapper to Slate Shots the naming convention would be 'Scene.Slate.Take' based on the information from the clapper board and the Continuity, Camera and Audio Reports, i.e.:

5.1.1

5.2.2

It can also be informative to add 'Description'. i.e:

5.1.1.ShotOfSomething

5.2.2.SomethingElse

This will now keep everything in script order and will make the editing process much easier to navigate.

You can also Label clips using the built-in Color Label function (the names of the Labels can be changed in 'Premiere Pro > Preferences > Label Colors).

To add a Label, right-click on the desired clip, select Label and choose your colour.
