PrP - Working with Audio - Can't Hear Audio?

Audio Not Working

Follow these instructions if you can't hear Audio, or Audio is not coming from the external speakers.

The rear of your iMac will look like this

If you want the speakers to play Audio, ensure they are plugged into the Headphone port.

If you want the iMac to play the Audio, ensure nothing is plugged into the Headphone port.

(if you have unplugged the speaker jack to use your own headphones, please replace the speaker jack when you are finished).

Hold the Option key on the keyboard.

Keep holding the Option key, and click the Audio icon on the right side of the Menu bar, to reveal the Audio toggle device dropdown.

In the dropdown menu ensure that Headphones have been selected for the Output Device.

OR

Check your System Preferences (apple icon - top left corner)

Select the Sound icon

 

Select the Output tab

If Speakers/Headphones are plugged in, the Output will look like this

If Speakers/Headphones are NOT plugged in the Output will look like this

The Audio will now come from iMacs internal speakers

If you are still not hearing any sound, or the sound is coming from the wrong location, you will need to check the Audio Hardware preferences in Premiere Pro

Select Built-in Output if you want the audio coming out of the iMac

Select Built-in Microphone/Built-in Output if you want the audio coming from the speakers/headphones
