PrP - Importing External Files

Importing External Files

Projects often require 'external files' (music, sound-effects, graphics).

While media files are imported from Data wrangled media, external files must be copied to your Media Drive and imported from there and into Premiere Pro.

To maintain an online file structure, copy external files to the folder structure you created earlier BEFORE importing the files into Premiere.

BREAKING YOUR FILE STRUCTURE WILL RESULT IN FILES BEING OFFLINE!

The STUDENT_RESOURCES folder on the ftv server contain files that you will use for your productions, such as Ident Slate, graphics, etc. Copy/paste these files to your 'Extras' folder before you import them into PrP.

Locate the files you need. You will need the following files:

Curtin Logo (mcca: STUDENT_RESOURCES > Curtin Logo)

• Journalists also need the Super (mcca: STUDENT_RESOURCES > Ident/Super)

COPY (Cmd+C) and PASTE (Cmd+V) these files to the 'Extras' folder you created in your assignment folder.

At some stage you will also require music and/or sound-effects.

There are two Audio resource folders:

SFX - sound effects/foley/spot effects

MUSIC_DOWNLOADS - Music requested from production-coordinator can be located here.

Open a new finder window and locate the Audio resource folder you require, or double-click on the MCASI_Server drive icon on your desktop and navigate to the folder.

You can search for files by entering search words in the Spotlight window in the top right hand corner of the Finder window.

Previewing Files

The audio files can be previewed by selecting the file (clicking ONCE on it) and hitting the spacebar.

Locate the required audio file, COPY and PASTE the files to the 'Audio' folder that you created earlier.

Once you have copied and pasted all the files you require (you can always add files later on in the project) return to PrP.

Locate the appropriate bin for the item, right-click inside it and on the bin into which you want to import the files, choose Import… from drop-down menu.

Your files are now available in the PrP bin.
