PrP - Basic Editing - Snap and Linked Selection

The Snap and Linked Selection buttons are located in upper left corner of a Timeline panel under the Sequence tab.

The timecode in this location indicates where the playhead is on the timeline.

Snap - S

This button turns snapping on/off. Snapping means that when you slide tracks around or add new tracks to your timeline, the start of the track will snap to the end of the track that you put it next to, or to a marker or the playhead.

Snapping is very useful when putting together a rough cut, but can be inconvenient when trying to fine tune your edit.

Snapping On/Off

Turn snapping off (button is grey) and when you want snapping to occur hold down the S key on the keyboard when you slide your track around or when you add a new track.

Linked Selection -  Cmd + L

When Linked Selection is turned on, clicking a linked clip in the Timeline automatically selects all the associated tracks. For example, if you click the video part of a linked A/V clip, the audio is automatically selected.

When Linked Selection is turned off, only the single track item that you click is selected, and not all the associated tracks.

You can temporarily override a toggle state by pressing Opt key while selecting the track.

Remember to turn linked selection on again once you are done making your changes as leaving it off will result in you sliding audio and video out of sync.
