PrP - Working with Audio - Audio Tracks

When placing audio onto the timeline, it is advised that you have a system for where you’re placing various types of audio, so that you know where everything is at all times.

This is the industry standard track distribution for a drama, movie or documentary:

Audio Tracks 1 & 2: A and B roll audio (SOT’s – Sound Off Tape/Camera)

Audio Tracks 3 & 4: Sound FX, (spot effects)

Audio Tracks 5 & 6: Ambient/background noise

Audio Tracks 7 & 8: Music

Obviously if you are not using Sound FX or ambient tracks, then music would go to tracks 3 & 4.

The important thing to note is that the tracks are placed according to the workflow of when they would be added to a final production – music is generally always applied last.

You can have as many audio tracks in Premiere as your heart desires.
