PrP - Working with Audio - Nesting

Nesting refers to placing a sequence inside another sequence. This process allows you to work on individual and smaller sequences one at a time and then place them together into a master sequence. The vision/audio layers of a nested sequence will be green (rather than the usual blue colour).

The major benefit of nesting is to allow the editor to make global changes to the entire sequence – instead of applying an effect to every single file within a sequence, you only have to apply the effect once, hence global.

To nest a sequence, simply create a master sequence and then drag your edited sequence onto the timeline. In this instance, I have created a sequence called ChickenRun and I have dragged the sequence TestRun directly onto it's timeline.

If you double click the master sequence it will automatically open the nested sequence on a new tab on the timeline.

To apply a global effect to the master sequence, simply drag the effect onto the sequence, like you would a normal clip.

However, to manipulate that effect, you need to click once on the sequence video/audio layer and go to the Effect Controls tab in the Source panel and manipulate the effect accordingly.

This is where it gets very important to be clearly labeling your sequences, amongst other things!
