WS - Three Point Editing

Three Point Edit

This is a method for editing quickly and efficiently using the keyboard short cuts and placing three IN/OUT points on the clip and the timeline.

The efficiency lies in only having to apply THREE POINTS without loosing accuracy:

  • A set of IN and OUT points describing a selection of either the part of the CLIP you want to use, or designating the space on the TIMELINE you want to fill with media.
  • An IN or an OUT point designating where you want the CLIP selection to start (IN) or end (OUT), or where you want the clip to start on the TIMELINE (IN) or end (OUT).

CLIP - two points will be set on the clip (IN and OUT) and one on the Timeline (IN or OUT)

Activate the Sequence Panel (Shift + 3)

Using J-K-L to locate where you want the clip selection to start or finish on the timeline.

  • Set an IN (I) point if you want to designate a start point for your clip - the IN point you will set on the clip will attach to this IN point an the clip will start from here
  • Set an OUT (O) if you want to designate the end point for a clip - the OUT point you will set on the clip will attach to this OUT point an the clip will be backtimed from here.

Activate the Project Panel (Shift + 1)

Using the Arrow Keys Select the clip.

Open Clip in Source Panel (Shift + O)

Using J-K-L to play through the clip.

Set an IN (I) and an OUT (O) to make your selection - your selection doesn't' have to be super accurate as you'll TRIM it later.

Overwrite (.) and the clip will be placed on the timeline, either having the clip starting at the IN point (if you set an IN in the timeline) overwriting any successive media

OR

Be backtimed from the OUT point (if you set an OUT in the timeline) overwriting any preceding media.

TIMELINE - two points will be set on the Timeline (IN and OUT) and one on the Clip (IN or OUT)

Designating a space on the timeline with an IN and OUT point and then describing the start (IN) or end (OUT) point on your clip is a
