WS - Trimming Clips

Trimming Clips

Once you are satisfied with the rough outline of your edit, it is time to finetune the edit points.

This is called trimming and can be achieved as a mouse controlled operation or using keyboard only.

TRIMMING WITH THE MOUSE

Hover your mouse cursor on or very near an edit point.

Notice how the cursor changes to a red arrow that changes direction depending on which side of the edit point you have the cursor. This is Trim In or Trim Out tool (depending on which side of the edit point you are on)

Click and drag to trim the IN or OUT point.

This leaves an empty gap between the clip and the new edit point, maintaining the running time of the timeline.

Hold down the Cmd key, and the arrow changes colour to yellow. This is the Ripple Edit tool.
Click and drag and the In or OUT point changes rippling the following/previous clip to the new edit point, shortening or lengthening the running time of the timeline.

If you place the cursor directly on the edit point while holding the Cmd key down it changes to a red double arrow. This is the Rolling edit tool.

Click and drag to move the edit point left or right without changing the length of the clips.
