Manual Connect to Isilon Server (Mac)

MANUAL CONNECTION ONLY

This process is for manually connecting to the Isilon on a Mac. To connect on a PC see here

VPN Connection

You will need to connect to the Isilon via a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to be able to access content from off campus.

To establish a VPN, follow these instructions first.


Press (cmd)⌘+K or, in Finder, go to 'Go' and from the drop-down menu select 'Connect to Server...'



The Connect to Server window will launch.

In the 'Server Address' field type in smb://son1/ftv and press 'Connect'.

In the Launch Application pop-up window select 'Finder'

Click 'OK'.

A connection window will pop-up requiring your Oasis Authentication if you have not already logged in to the machine you are on with your Oasis Authentication. If you have already authenticated you will be connected automatically.


Select to connect as 'Registered User

Enter your Oasis authentication (student/staff ID and password).

DO NOT CHECK the 'Remember this password...' checkbox.


Click 'Connect'



The ftv Isilon share will mount on your desktop as a blue drive icon.

(A Finder window may also open up with all the folders you have access to)

Next, double click the drive and the folders you have available will open in a new Finder window.

The amount of folders and the folder names will depend on what level of access you currently have on the Isilon server.

There are common folders that all users share.


FOR STAFF:

COMPLETED_ASSIGNMENTS: 

  • This is where exported assignments can be located to play in class.

TEACHING_RESOURCES:

  • Here you can shared teaching resources

 

FOR STUDENTS:

COMPLETED_ASSIGNMENTS: 

  • This is where you export your assignments to when they are done (please note: exporting and saving are two different processes)

MUSIC_DOWNLOADS:

  • Here you can find tracks that have been downloaded from BeatBox

SFX:

  • Here you can find pre-recorded sound effects

STUDENT_RESOURCES:

  • Here you can find logos, lower thirds and other useful items

TO PLAY AN ASSIGNMENT:

In the completed_assignments folder, locate the Unit Folder, the Tutorial Folder and the File you want to play.

Right-click on the file and select 'Play with VLC' from the drop-down menu.
