1.3.B - Studio Booking Procedures for Non-Assessable Projects

The studio may be used for non- assessable projects undertaken by students in order to extend their skills and experience, and in certain circumstances, for commercial projects.

All requests to use the studio for non-assessable student projects or commercial projects must be approved by the Head of Department or duly authorised person, and that approval must be indicated on the Studio Booking Form to enable the request to be checked for conflicting bookings and for the technical requirements to be cleared by the Studio Technician.

Normally, students wishing to book the studio for a non-commercial project may do so provided that they meet certain conditions. As with any equipment or facility, student groups or others wishing to use the studio must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the studio for whatever component that you request, and you will need to have at least one member of the group who has been instructed in the use of the studio and is familiar with its operation and safety requirements.

You will be required to supply details of the project, a script or treatment, a production schedule, lighting and/or floor plan and a list of what specific equipment you want to use in the studio.

You may be required to submit a safety and risk assessment form for the studio shoot, particularly if sets and other materials are necessary for the production.

When such a project is approved by the Head of Department as supplementing your formal study, all students engaged in the project will be covered by the University’s standard personal injury and liability cover for students and volunteers. However, to ensure that the studio equipment is adequately insured, particularly for commercial projects, you may be requested to provide evidence of appropriate insurance cover for the period of the project before being able to use our facilities.
