Ladder - multipurpose
Follow this procedure for the safe use of the multipurpose ladder:
- Only use the multipurpose ladder when working over seating/steps. Do not use it when a platform ladder can be used.
- Using two people, raise the ladder to the desired height for the most extended leg. Keep fingers and other body parts clear at all times. Lock the four leg pins.
- Push in both locks at the top of the ladder. When the inner red section is showing, the ladder can be folded in or out. Fold out the ladder until the locks snap into place. Ensure both locks are closed before continuing.
- Place the ladder in the desired position, with all feet firmly on a flat, secure surface.
- Lower one leg to the desired height. The apex of the ladder should be centred between the legs at all times (resembling the letter A). Ensure the legs pins are locked in the new position.
- Have a second person “foot” the ladder from the opposite side you climb. There should be someone footing the ladder at all times when you are climbing or standing on the ladder.
- Climb the ladder. Climb slowly, facing the ladder, always maintaining at least three points of contact (one hand and two feet, or two hands and one foot).
- Do not climb higher than the third rung from the top.
- When working from the ladder, keep both feet on the ladder at all times. Do not overreach. Always face the ladder.
- Once work is complete, descend slowly, facing the ladder and keeping three points of contact.
- Safely store the ladder in the auditorium cupboard once work is complete.
If you cannot reach the desired position using the multipurpose ladder, you will need to reconsider the positioning of the item. Do not contravene the safe working procedure.
