Smoke machine - F100

Isolation of the fire detection system is necessary during the use of smoke, fog or haze generators. Ensure the correct procedure is adhered to in order to maintain adequate fire detection safety and avoid a “false alarm.”

Use of smoke generators must be authorised by the Hayman Theatre Production Coordinator and be strictly as instructed.

Once isolation has been carried out, follow this procedure for the safe and correct use of the F-100 performance smoke generator:

  1. Conduct a visual inspection of the machine, ensuring the test tag is current and there is no damage to the plug, cable, or housing.
  2. Carry the machine using two people, following correct manual handling procedure.
  3. Position the machine on a flat, stable surface with adequate ventilation, away from flammable materials or moisture. Never point it directly at people.
  4. Ensure the fluid level is adequate. Only use approved smoke fluid.
  5. Plug in the machine to power. If using DMX control, address the machine and connect it to DMX.
  6. Press the enable switch. This illuminates the enable and heater LEDs. The F-100 will require approximately six minutes to heat to a minimum operational temperature, at which time the ready LED will illuminate.
  7. If operating without DMX: Press the run switch. This starts the production of smoke. Turn the output knob clockwise to its maximum setting to prime the pump. If operating with DMX: Prime the pump by setting the control channel at full.
  8. If operating without DMX: Adjust the volume of fog using the output knob.
  9. For tests or rehearsal, use the smallest amount of smoke required and increase the output gradually. For performances, operate the machine only as rehearsed.
  10. After use, press the enable switch to disable the pump and heater. Let the machine cool for ten minutes before moving or touching. During this time the machine may emit small puffs of smoke.
  11. Once the machine is fully cooled, use two people to return it to storage.
