Lighting: Why aren't the lights turning on?

Problem

No lights are turning on, or the movers/LED strips aren't working at all.

Solution

  1. Check that the movers and LED strips are switched on at the powerboard in the dimmer cupboard, and that the dimmers are turned on.
  2. If the problem is with playing back cues, clear the live view.
  3. If you have assigned your cuelist to a fader on the console, make sure that fader is up. Also ensure the grandmaster pod in the top right of the console is turned all the way clockwise, and the DBO (dead blackout) button is not pressed.
  4. If you are getting an error message about not being able to find the USB device (the console), check that it is connected to the laptop via USB cable. Then select "Console" in the top toolbar, and "Rescan for USB devices." Even without the error message, there can be an undetected disconnect if the computer has been left idle for a very long time, like overnight. Turn the laptop all the way off, then power up again.
  5. Check that the DMX cable is connected to the DMX1 port on the console, and into the DMX port in the bio box.
  6. Check that the laptop power is plugged in and turned on. If not, connect the power, then turn the laptop off and on again.
  7. If the lights operate normally for the most part, but periodically black out, check the USB dongle is plugged in and glowing red.
