There are many sites offering music on the Internet, usually these sites are unsigned musicians and composers promoting their work on platform sites such as Soundcloud or it might be established artists like ‘Moby’ who provides some of his music royalty free to students on MobyGratis.  While many sites offer free music they make have conditions under which you might be able to use in your film.

With more and more artists making their work available via the Internet one solution is placing their work under a Creative Commons License; click here to find a list of websites offering Creative Commons Music.


You Must Check:

  • Take note of the site you have downloaded from, the address and time (the same way you list a web source in a bibliography in an essay assignment).


  • Check that the artist hasn’t used samples from another artist (where practicable).


  • Check if they conditions such as attribution is required.


  • Perhaps contact the artist directly by email to ask for permission.
