3.4 - Unsigned Band / Musician / Composer

Chances are that you or someone in your production team knows a musician.Ā  If you have decided to engage a musician, there will still need to be some care taken in the way that you use their created work in your film.

Ā 

You Must Check:

  • They are not signed to a record label or publishing house.

  • That the work they have created is original, for instance they havenā€™t sampled or copied other works.

  • You must get the composer/performer to sign a Music Release form.

  • That both parties are clear about the conditions of use of the created work.

Ā 

Make sure that the composer is aware that the film might be public screened and make sure they have been credited in the film.
