PrP - Repair Audio (Noise Reduction)
The steps below outline the process for sending a piece of audio to Adobe Audition (from Premiere Pro) to reduce unwanted background noise | |
 | Right-click on the offending audio (from the timeline/sequence) Select Edit Clip In Adobe Audition |
 | Adobe Audition will open - be patient, this can take up to 1-2 minutes to load |
 | From the Effects drop down menu select Noise Reduction (Process)... |
 | This will open the following effects box |
 | First we need to select a noise print to capture Using your cursor on the timeline, select and drag over a piece of audio that you want to remove This will create a white highlighted area (as in the image) |
 | Back in the effect box - select Capture Noise Print This will now capture the selection you made in the previous step and analyse it |
 | Select Entire File - push this button to tell audition that you would like to apply the above analysis to the entire audio - this now highlights the entire sequence Select Apply to process the audio |
 | Play the finished result to see if you have achieved the desired effect If you have not achieved the desired result but it feels close - select (cmd+z) to undo, go back to the noise reduction effect and try a different noise print. You also have parameters within the effect which you can manipulate - trial and error |
 | If you have achieved the desired result hit (cmd+s) to save the file (or file>save from the drop down menu) |
 | Back in Premiere Make sure you save (cmd+s) the project first (if you don't premiere tends to make a god-awful sound, trust me, you won't like it one bit). This will also refresh the page and allow you to see the new effect applied Your audio track will now be green (it was blue before, if you hadn't noticed) to indicate it has been to Audition and back |
