PrP - Workspace - Source Monitor Tabs Explained
The Source Monitor is a dynamic window - it plays back individual clips selected from from Project Bins, Media Browser, or Timeline.
The chosen clip stays open until another clip is selected. The Source Monitor is used to prepare clips so they can be added to a sequence. You set IN and OUT points, and specify the clip’s source tracks (audio or video).Any manipulation of the clip will be done to the clip source you have selected (from the Project Browser or from the Timeline).ALWAYS add filters and perform adjustments to a clip selected from the timeline. This leaves the clips in the Project Browser as Original media clips.
The Source Monitor has 4 tabs that provide useful functions and opportunities for direct manipulation of either video or audio.
SOURCE: shows the image content of the clip currently selected. This is the default tab.
Source: Clip Name (Billabong) = source clip is from the Project Browser
Source: Sequence Name (Audio_F3): Clip Name (Billabong): First frame on sequence timeline (00:01:29:12) = source clip is from the sequence timeline
EFFECT CONTROLS: provides access to options for basic manipulation of the video image or the text item - such as opacity, scale etc.It also provides access to any filters/fx that has been added to a clip - click on the drop-down triangle next to each Filter to get access to filter/fx settings that can be manipulated for any given filter. It is good practice to apply filters only to clips selected from the Timeline, and leave the Browser clips as pure original media.
AUDIO CLIP MIXER: shows the clip’s Audio tracks, and allow for manipulation of these tracks. If a clip's audio track is double-clicked in the timeline, this tab opens up automatically.
METADATA: This tab shows clip metadata. Always as good place to quickly check frame size, frame rate and codec (these 3 things are key to all good workflows...get to know them well)!
1/2 - SELECT PLAYBACK RESOLUTION: This button enables the lowering of playback resolution to enable faster and smoother playback (especially if working with large resolution clips) - it will have no impact on your export (THIS BUTTON IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE PROGRAM WINDOW - bottom right corner).SPANNER - SETTINGS (see image below)xx:xx:xx:xx Timecode = Total Clip Duration (In Program Panel this timecode refers Total Sequence Duration)
SETTINGS: Click this button to get access to a full list of Source Window Settings (THIS BUTTON IS ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE PROGRAM WINDOW).
